Description
Animal Group Names Activity is a fun way to build vocabulary! Students will learn the names of animal groups by matching animal names and pictures with the group names. Did you know that a group of flamingos is called a flamboyance?
This activity is perfect for . . .
- An icebreaker activity at the beginning of the school year
- An introduction to an animals unit
- Any time you need a break from the regular routine
This product includes:
- Two sets of 40 cards in PDF format (40 animals total) with the animal picture and name written in all caps on one card and the animal group name in lowercase on the corresponding card. Print these on card stock and laminate them.
- Definitions worksheet for each set that can be used for pre-assessment using a dictionary or other resources.
- Matching worksheet for each set that works well after the activity to assess learning.
- Answer Chart and Keys to Worksheets
Ways to play:
- Whole-Class “Find Your Partner” activity that your kinesthetic learners will really enjoy
- Small-Group “Memory Game”
- Make Flash Cards for individual students – great for early finishers
My high school students especially loved the whole class game, but you can use this with a wide range of age groups. The worksheets are optional and may not be appropriate for younger students, but all ages will love the animal picture cards!
