Description
In this Mitosis and Meiosis Lab, your Biology students will use chenille stems to model chromosome arrangements in each stage of mitosis and meiosis.
This lab is really two labs in one!
1. MITOSIS LAB: Students make chromosome models and draw them on the lab handout. Then, they answer questions about the stages of mitosis. The teacher’s guide includes a list of suggested questions for students that you can use to assess their understanding as you rotate among lab groups. Approximate time: 40-50 minutes
2. MEIOSIS LAB: Students make chromosome models for each stage of meiosis I and II including crossing over. Then, they draw these models on the lab handout and answer review questions at the end. There are also two charts that help them compare and contrast mitosis and meiosis. Suggested questions for students are also included. Approximate time: 50-65 minutes
